Dr. Mahesh Kumar Goenka is one of India’s most respected and pioneering gastroenterologists, with more than four decades of specialised experience in the field of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy. Based in Kolkata, he serves as the Director of the Institute of Gastrosciences and Liver at Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, where he has been instrumental in establishing one of Eastern India’s leading centres for gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
With extensive clinical expertise, academic credibility, and national leadership roles in gastroenterology organisations, Dr. Goenka is regarded as a senior figure in modern Indian GI medicine, known equally for his medical contributions and mentorship of younger specialists across India.
Dr. Goenka completed his MBBS from Calcutta Medical College in 1981, followed by his MD in Internal Medicine (1987) and DM in Gastroenterology (1989) from the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh — one of India’s top-ranking institutions for superspecialty medical training.
