Brief Profile :
Prof. Dr. Ajith A. Pillai is an eminent Indian interventional cardiologist recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise in complex coronary, structural, and endovascular cardiac interventions. With an extensive academic background, international fellowship training, and a high-volume record of advanced cardiac procedures, he has emerged as one of the leading pioneers of modern interventional cardiology in India. His contributions span clinical practice, academic teaching, procedural innovation, and transformative mentorship for the next generation of cardiologists.
Born and educated in Kerala, India, Dr. Pillai completed his MBBS, MD in General Medicine, and DM in Cardiology from the Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), one of India’s oldest and most prestigious medical institutions. His strong foundational training in internal medicine and cardiology in a highly demanding tertiary care setting laid the groundwork for his later specialization in complex cardiac interventions.
To deepen his expertise further, Dr. Pillai undertook multiple advanced fellowship programs abroad, each focused on a different frontier of interventional cardiology. He completed his Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Frankfurt in Germany, one of the European hubs for high-end cardiac catheterization research and innovation. He also trained in Structural Heart Interventions at UCLA Health in the United States, an institution known globally for cutting-edge cardiovascular innovation. In addition, he received specialized Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) training at the Toyohashi Heart Centre in Japan, a world leader in CTO angioplasty techniques. Further exposure to aortic and transcatheter valve therapies in Sweden and Japan contributed to his expertise in structural heart disease.
